A football season that had so much promise has ended for U of L. Oh, there are still a couple games left, and one of them is against Kentucky. But they won't be playing in the College Football playoff nor even for an ACC title. In this era, if you're a big school with talent, that's what matters. This season was a disappointment, and I would even say a failure.

U of L has plenty of talent. They have good coaches who know the Xs and Os. But talent and coaching alone are not enough without a strong team-centric culture. U of L football either has no culture at all — or a bad one.

U of L is one of the most penalized teams in the country, including eight unsportsmanlike penalties, nine false starts and 23 holding calls — direct results of selfishness, lack of discipline and putting oneself above the team. The players made way too many dumb, undisciplined penalties, and that is on the coaching staff.

When players are seeking personal attention and glory, when they're playing for the name on the back of the jersey, the coaching staff has not done their job. In the offseason, they need to emphasize team culture, because, without it, no amount of talent or coaching will make next year any better.

I'm Bill Lamb, and that's my Point of View.
