I've been thinking about the things we've wasted money on, and some still bug me years later.
Like when River Fields tied the state up in court to force it to spend an extra $300 million in taxpayer dollars for a tunnel to extend the Gene Snyder to the Lewis and Clark Bridge. Or those downtown bike lanes. The lanes didn't change behavior — they just wasted money.
Here's what our viewers had to say:
"I agree with the bike lanes, but there's always a waste of money to the government."
"A huge waste of money is paying these four deputy mayors $172,000 a year. After a four-year term of $3 million. That's total ridiculous."
"Let's see how much the JCPS system spent on these yonder phone pouches. Because they're too scared to discipline a kid and make them keep the phones in the locker, they have to have phone pouches that cost $25 to $30 per student. And we're fitting the bill for that."
"One of the biggest waste of taxpayers money was that $7,000 that the Jefferson County Board of Education spent on a billboard thanking Dr. Pollio."
