While Louisville's overall homicide rate is improving — dropping from 93 homicides this time last year to 62 so far this year — the trend hasn’t extended to youth victims.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Louisville Metro Police and Kentuckiana Crime Stoppers are partnering on a new public safety initiative that could award thousands of dollars for tips.

Officers responded on a reported shooting in the area of South 3rd and St. Catherine streets at 3:30 p.m.

A teen boy was shot in the Shawnee neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.

The hope is that the increased police presence allows visitors to once again enjoy the park freely and without fear.
