Authorities have arrested two more people in Missouri and Washington state in connection with a planned attack targeting President Donald Trump’s UFC event at the White House earlier this month. Court documents filed Monday say one of the suspects was arrested Friday and charged with conspiracy to commit murder. Another was arrested Sunday. Federal officials say five others are also facing charges. Federal officials say the planned attack was disrupted days before the June 14 event after a man who was reported by his mother told authorities he was part of a group that wanted to target members of government and trigger a revolution. Prosecutors say the plotters harbored fringe conspiracy theories.
The Utah judge in the murder case of Charlie Kirk’s killing has denied a defense request to force Tyler Robinson’s former roommate to testify in person during the preliminary hearing. Judge Tony Graf said Monday that the credibility of any testimony can be challenged later if the case goes to trial. Graf also postponed a ruling on whether prosecutors could face sanctions for comments to the media about a bullet fragment recovered from the conservative activist’s body until Friday. Robinson has not yet entered a plea. The 23-year-old from southwestern Utah is charged with aggravated murder in the Sept. 10 assassination of Kirk. The ally of President Donald Trump was shot in the neck while addressing a crowd of thousands at Utah Valley University.
Newly released video from an officer’s body camera and a surveillance camera at a Texas running track captures the moments after a teenage athlete fatally stabbed another teen from a rival team in the stadium bleachers during a high school meet last year. Karmelo Anthony was convicted of murder on June 10 in the death of Austin Metcalf and sentenced to 35 years in prison. The surveillance video shows Anthony running down the bleachers and away from the tent before stopping and walking back. The officer's bodycam video shows Anthony being placed in handcuffs and obeying all commands. He then began crying, saying “he put his hands on me.”
A Long Island architect who lived a secret life as the Gilgo Beach serial killer has been sentenced to to life in prison without parole. Rex Heuermann had previously admitted in court to killing eight women, many of them sex workers. Police discovered the remains of several of the women along a coastal parkway not far from Long Island’s Gilgo Beach. Family members of victims delivered emotional statements during the court hearing. Jasmine Robinson, a cousin of victim Jessica Taylor, said, “You fill me with so much repugnance, I can’t stand it.”
Luigi Mangione plans to assert a psychiatric defense at his state murder trial in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Judge Gregory Carro said Wednesday that Mangione’s lawyers have informed him they will try to show that he was suffering from “extreme emotional disturbance at the time of the occurrence.” By asserting a psychiatric defense, Mangione would effectively be admitting that he killed Thompson but did so because of mitigating circumstances. If a jury finds that Mangione was emotionally disturbed at the time of the killing, it could convict him of manslaughter instead of murder, meaning he’d be sentenced to less time in prison.

Federal prosecutors have charged 15 people with impeding federal agents during a massive immigration surge in Minnesota earlier this year. The defendants allegedly used tactics like stalking agents and using ice blocks to slow convoys. Minnesota U.S. Attorney Daniel N. Rosen said the operation targeted Minneapolis-based antifa groups. President Trump had previously directed authorities to target antifa, which he labeled a domestic terror group. The charges follow "Operation Metro Surge," which brought thousands of agents to the Twin Cities, sparking protests and leading to the fatal shooting of two citizens. Names and specific charges were not immediately available.
A former Louisville police officer has been charged with manslaughter for fatally shooting a naked man. A grand jury also indicted Nathan A. Stotts on a charge of reckless homicide Monday for the May 30 fatal shooting of 27-year-old Martin Nitzken Jr. Body camera footage released by police shows Stotts fired one shot at a man on a neighborhood street after the man walked toward him. Stotts was sent to the area to respond to a report of multiple assaults. Officers were told the suspect had no clothes on and was running down the street. Stotts resigned last week.
The sibling owners of a Santo Domingo nightclub will stand trial for involuntary manslaughter after a roof collapse killed 236 people. A judge ruled Monday that Antonio and Maribel Espaillat, owners of Jet Set nightclub, could face up to two years in prison if found guilty. The collapse on April 8, 2025, shocked the Dominican Republic, with authorities working for days to rescue people. Prosecutors have accused the Espaillats of trying to intimidate employees. Hundreds, including athletes and politicians, were at the concert when the roof collapsed. Former MLB pitcher Octavio Dotel was among the victims.
The Trump administration killed Venezuelan gang leader El Niño Guerrero during an airstrike conducted by the U.S. military in southeastern Venezuela. The strike exemplifies a new approach in how the U.S. fights foreign criminal groups, and could also be linked to efforts to pave the way for foreign investment in Venezuela's mining sector. Tren de Aragua is a minor player in the global cocaine industry, involved in drug shipments leaving Venezuela, so analysts don’t expect the killing to drastically change the flow of drugs to the U.S.
