Two bank employees have been fatally shot during a robbery in Kentucky, and a search is underway for the suspect. A Kentucky State Police spokesperson says a man wearing a gray-white hoodie, gloves and a mask entered a branch of U.S. Bank in Berea and shot a male and female employee. Authorities say law enforcement officials have been going door to door in search of information and surveillance video. They also used helicopters, drones and canines. State police posted a photo of the suspect on social media and asked people to call if they recognize him or have information.

Family members say the behavior of a suspect in the murders of two University of South Florida students worsened over time because of marijuana use. Hisham Abugharbieh was arrested three years ago for punching his brother and kicking his mother. He was delusional, claiming to be “son of Mary.” He was taken to jail under the Baker Act for mental health observation. Last week, Abugharbieh, 26, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder. The remains of his roommate, Zamil Limon, were found in a trash bag. Authorities have not confirmed if a body found in the same area is Limon’s girlfriend, Nahida Bristy.

Prosecutors have revealed that a suspect in the deaths of two University of South Florida students asked ChatGPT about body disposal. This raises questions about tech companies' roles in preventing misuse of chatbots. The suspect, Hisham Abugharbieh, allegedly asked the AI about guns and body disposal before the students went missing on April 16. Law enforcement found Zamil Limon's body on Friday, and a second body, found in a waterway near Limon’s body, has not been identified. Abugharbieh faces two counts of premeditated murder. The case highlights how AI data can aid investigations and underscores concerns about tech companies' responsibilities in preventing criminal misuse.

Singer D4vd, pronounced “David,” is about to face a preliminary hearing where a judge will decide whether he should go to trial in connection with the killing and dismembering of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. At the hearing planned for Friday, witnesses will be called and evidence will be presented. Lawyers for the 21-year-old singer whose legal name is David Anthony Burke say he is not guilty. Rivas Hernandez's body was discovered in a towed Tesla registered to Burke in the Hollywood Hills last year. He has been charged with first-degree murder and other felony counts.

The California city of Oakland has driven homicides to historic lows by offering services including life coaches to people most likely to get pulled into gang-related shootings. Oakland Ceasefire-Lifeline uses relentless, tailored outreach to connect with people at highest risk of being a victim or shooter in an act of retaliation. They are offered social services and a life coach to help them turn around their lives. Fifty-seven people were murdered in Oakland last year, a record not seen since 1967. It is part of a national trend.

A teenager charged with sexually assaulting and killing his 18-year-old stepsister on a Carnival Cruise ship will go to trial in over a month. A federal judge said this week in an order that Timothy Hudson's trial on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated sexual abuse will start June 1 in Miami. The 16-year-old was initially charged as a juvenile before the case was transferred to adult court. He entered a written plea of not guilty last week. Minors are rarely prosecuted in federal court.

A college dropout facing murder charges in the killings of two University of South Florida students has a hearing scheduled. Court records say 26-year-old Hisham Abugharbieh faces two counts of first-degree premeditated murder with a weapon as well as other charges. He could get the death penalty if convicted, although prosecutors haven’t yet indicated whether they would seek capital punishment. It’s unknown whether he’ll be present at a 9 a.m. Tuesday status conference. His public defender has declined to comment. Zamil Limon and Nahida Bristy, both 27-year-old doctoral students from Bangladesh, disappeared April 16. Limon was last seen at the off-campus complex where he shared an apartment with Abugharbieh and another roommate.

Nearly a quarter-century after rap star Jam Master Jay of Run-DMC was shot to death, a man admitted in court Monday to a role in a killing that stymied investigators for decades. Jay Bryant pleaded guilty to a federal murder charge, telling a judge that he helped other people get into a recording studio so they could ambush the DJ, born Jason Mizell. The 52-year-old’s admission brings some closure — but also adds complexity — to a knotty case. Bryant didn’t name the other people with whom he acted. But a jury in 2024 convicted two other men, Karl Jordan Jr. and Ronald Washington, yet a judge subsequently cleared Jordan. Washington has also challenged his conviction.

Prosecutors say the suspect in the killings of two University of South Florida doctoral students from Bangladesh had asked ChatGPT days before the pair went missing what would happen if a human body was put in a garbage bag and thrown in a dumpster. According to a pretrial detention report, Hisham Abugharbieh also asked the artificial intelligence chatbot whether the identification number on his car could be changed. ChatGPT responded that Abugharbieh’s question sounded dangerous. The remains of Abugharbieh’s roommate, Zamil Limon, were found Friday, but authorities said they were still searching for Limon’s girlfriend, Nahida Bristy. On Sunday, the sheriff’s office said a body was found in the area, but had not been identified.
