For the second year in a row, Jefferson County saw a historic drop in fatal drug overdoses.

The leaves from the kratom tree -- which is native to  Southeast Asia -- are often made into a variety of products such as drinks, pills, teas, gummies, and more. 

Gov. Andy Beshear and health officials announced Tuesday that overdose deaths dropped by more than 30% in 2024 compared to the previous year — from 1,984 deaths in 2023 to 1,410 in 2024.

It is a year long, in-home program that is already available in 10 states, including Indiana and Ohio.
