Measles, a highly contagious respiratory virus, can cause serious health problems, especially in young children. 

This is the first case of measles in Indiana since 2024 when a confirmed case was found in Lake County.

There have not been any confirmed measles cases in Marion County this year.

"Often, people are spreading the disease before they even realize they have it," Caloia said. "You may be around someone who doesn't have a rash or fever yet and they may be contagious."
