LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The Marion County Public Health Department in Indiana is advising anyone who visited The Children's Museum of Indianapolis on April 8 for the solar eclipse event that they may have been exposed to measles.

According to a news release from the health department, the infected person is not an Indiana resident, but traveled to the state while infectious.

There have not been any confirmed measles cases in Marion County this year.

Anyone exposed to measles, which is highly contagious, on April 8 would most likely see symptoms develop before April 22 or as late as April 29 based on the virus' incubation period.

Symptoms of measles include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, tiny white spots in the mouth and a rash that starts on the hairline and face, spreading to the torso, arms and legs. The virus is easily spread by droplets in the air after a person coughs or sneezes.

If you have symptoms, stay home and call your healthcare provider right away. If you need a measles vaccination, reach out to your local health department or healthcare provider.
