LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Jefferson County jury is recommending 20 years in prison for a Louisville man convicted of a deadly shooting inside a Taylor Boulevard convenience store in 2024.

Gage Leviathan Lewis was found guilty Wednesday of murdering 21-year-old Dion Smith Jr. On Thursday, the jury recommended a 20-year sentence.

The shooting happened May 18, 2024, inside the Speedy Mart in the 4400 block of Taylor Boulevard near Southern Parkway.

Police said Lewis shot and killed Smith inside the store. Another man was also shot but survived.

Lewis was 18 when he was arrested the day after the shooting. According to court records, Louisville Metro Police identified him using surveillance video.

Lewis is not eligible for probation or shock probation and must serve at least 85% of his sentence before he can be considered for parole.

Lewis is scheduled to be formally sentenced Oct. 7. The judge will make the final decision on his sentence.
