Police said Isaac Bartley and another man were trying to cross a dark section of Preston Highway when Bartley was hit.

The neighborhood is located across from a massive warehouse and directly beneath a busy airport flight path.

The mother of the children, who dropped them out a window to safety, was also injured.

Police say 18-year-old Adam Cortez confessed to shooting his 26-year-old girlfriend early Sunday morning.
