Legislation aimed at easing Kentucky's near-total abortion ban by creating limited exceptions for pregnancies caused by rape or incest was introduced Monday in the GOP-dominated House.
Sen. David Yates, D-Louisville, announced plans Tuesday to file a bill aimed at softening Kentucky's "extreme" abortion ban to include exemptions for survivors of rape and incest as well as woman who have non-viable pregnancies.
The lawsuit was filed Friday in Indianapolis federal court.
Kentucky law bans abortions except when they’re carried out to save the life of the mother or to prevent disabling injury. It does not include exceptions for cases of rape or incest.
