A pilot program is aiming to help Hodgenville Police Department better serve and support their community by creating a police social worker role. 

The program is a response to concerns about law enforcement and people dealing with a behavioral health crisis.

Beshear's budget includes funding for 350 new social workers throughout the state over the next two years. 

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the number of social work jobs will increase by 16% in the decade before 2026, Spalding said.
