It happened Wednesday at about 9 a.m. in Jefferson County in Indiana.

Construction would start next spring and include traffic shifts and lane closures.

A 1-mile section of State Road 56 in Scott County is now known as Sgt. Ben Bertram Memorial Mile.

The Scott County sheriff estimates there have been at least half a dozen wrecks at the intersection, including a fatality, since the beginning of 2019.
