Founded by formerly enslaved people in 1879, Simmons produced Kentucky's first Black doctors, lawyers and teachers. 

Sometimes, the story is less what is said than who is there. Or, in the case of the annual University of Louisville Women's Basketball Tipoff Luncheon, how many are there.

On Monday, Pat Kelsey put his spin on the annual address, part state-of-the-program, part philosophy, part setting of expectations.

He's in the middle of the room, not waiting tables, but thanking tables. He's greeting, shaking hands, slapping backs, cracking jokes.

For University of Louisville basketball coach Kenny Payne heading into his second season, there has been an additional video assignment. Payne has been breaking down himself. He has pulled video on all of the team’s single-digit losses from his first season as coach.
