Racers could choose their race formats and do one or all three. For many, the race was their first.

According to Louisville Sports Commission, 2019 marked the end of a five-year deal with Ironman in Louisville. Karl Schmitt with the commission said plans are in place for Ironman to come back in 2020 as part of a one-year extension. After that, plans aren't clear. 

As part of a new contract with the city, the triathlon will be held the second Sunday in October instead of during the month of August -- which many have considered part of the toughness and grit of Louisville's event.
