United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain said Friday that while Detroit’s automakers have increased their wage and benefit offers, he believes the union can gain more if it holds out longer in contract talks.

Nearly 9,000 Kentucky Truck Plant workers in Louisville joined the UAW strike last Wednesday.

A University of Louisville economist said the effects of an extended strike would stretch beyond Ford workers on the picket line.

Workers began walking off the job at 6:30 p.m. in a significant escalation by the union.

The second week added 38 General Motors and Stellantis plants to the three Ford, GM and Stellantis plants already on strike.

The mayor also had high praise for LMPD's new police chief.
