His journey will total 22 miles to honor the 22 veterans who take their own lives each day. 

Cherokee Park will be car free on Sunday as the Olmsted Parks Conservancy closes its Scenic Loop for people wanting to walk, bike or run. 

Down Syndrome of Louisville provides various support services to those with Down syndrome and helps promote independence.

"This is the Louisville I EXPECT to see," event organizer Hannah Drake said in a tweet Saturday. "This is the Louisville that I KNOW we can be." 

Louisville Metro Police have been implementing programs to crack down on pedestrian injuries and deaths, but the department is now setting its sights on the pedestrians themselves.

As part of a new contract with the city, the triathlon will be held the second Sunday in October instead of during the month of August -- which many have considered part of the toughness and grit of Louisville's event.

Saturday morning people took a step toward defeating the disease.
