Against the Spread | Bozich & Crawford like Louisville to win, but what about covering?

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Another week, another battle to stay over .500 — at least for me.

Louisville, Kentucky and Indiana are all booked for games this weekend in which they will be favored by (essentially) a touchdown or less.

The Cards and Wildcats need to win to advance toward bowl eligibility and winning records. The Hoosiers need to win to get to 8-0 for the first time since 1967.

Toss in Scott Satterfield taking on Deion Sanders as well as Notre Dame's hunt to stay in the national playoff picture, and this is another prime weekend for Against the Spread.

The good news: Both Eric Crawford and I are still on the plus side with our original imaginary $1,000 bankroll. Whew.

Wagering Recap:

  • Crawford went 3-2 last week, hitting Miami, Indiana and Tennessee to improve 23-17 for the season. His bankroll jumped from $1,525 to $1,575.
  • Bozich finished 2-3 last week, hitting Florida and Tennessee. He is  23-17 for the season. His bankroll dipped from $1,225 to $1,150.

1. Louisville (-7.5) at Boston College, Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Crawford: I do like Louisville to win at Boston College but can't bet them giving more than a touchdown. BC is coming off a blowout loss, but has a good quarterback and Louisville's defense is still looking for answers. (Boston College for $50).

Bozich: I have to agree with my sidekick. BC is unbeaten in three home games, including a victory over Michigan State. Now, the Cards are without Caullin Lacy and Jamari Johnson. They need to win and not worry about the margin. Let Vegas worry about that. BC for $30.

2. Auburn (+2.5) at Kentucky, Saturday, 7:45 p.m.

Crawford: Kentucky has to beat Auburn. The Tigers have been one of the worst teams in the SEC, Kentucky is playing at home in front of another sellout crowd (if everybody shows, which is in some doubt). This needs to be a statement game for Kentucky. (Kentucky for $100).

Bozich: The smell of desperation is in the air in Lexington. If Kentucky loses this game, you can forget a winning season. Auburn has lost four straight and the noise is growing that its famously fickle boosters are ready to dump coach Hugh Freeze. Kentucky for $50.

3. Washington (+6.5) at Indiana, Saturday, Noon.

Crawford: This is a tough pick, but Indiana has been rolling everybody. The big question is, when does the roll stop? I'm going to take the Hoosiers in this one, but don't think it's the kind of blowout we've been seeing. (Indiana for $25).

Bozich: I've picked against the Hoosiers for most of their 7-0 start, but watching them treat Nebraska like Western Illinois was an eye-opener. The offense is balanced and the defense has been formidable. Yes, Kurtis Rourke is out at quarterback but Tayven Jackson has earned plenty of snaps the last two seasons. He nearly engineered a comeback win over Louisville last season. And remember this: Washington is making the three-time zone trip to start a game at 9 a.m. Seattle time. IU for $75.

4. Notre Dame (-13) vs Navy, Saturday, Noon, Met Life Stadium, East Rutherford, N.J.

Crawford: I'm a little surprised the line for Notre Dame and Navy is as big as it is. I think the undefeated Midshipmen are being overlooked here. I give them a chance to win outright, but feel pretty good about them coming within 13. (Navy for $50).

Bozich: This is no road game. The Irish will have more fans in the Giants/Jets stadium than Navy. In a five-game winning streak since the loss to Northern Illinois, the Irish have beaten everybody but Louisville by at least 18 points. Yes, Navy is ranked and unbeaten but the only team the Midshipmen have beaten with a winning record is Memphis. Notre Dame for $30.

5. Cincinnati +5 1/2 at Colorado, Saturday, 10:15 p.m.

Crawford: What do you do when you don't have a lot of confidence in either team? I''m going with Colorado here, mainly because they are at home. (Colorado for $25)

Bozich: Scott Satterfield has his 5-2 team one win from bowl eligibility after beating Central Florida and Arizona State. But Colorado has more talent, home field advantage and a 5-2 record against the 18th toughest schedule in the country, according to Jeff Sagarin's formula. UC's schedule ranks 49th. Give me Deion Sanders for $50.
