LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville graduate transfer wideout Caullin Lacy has decided to opt out of the rest of the season, a source close to the program said Wednesday night.

While several reports said Louisville would work on a deal to have Lacy return, the source told WDRB he is expected to transfer elsewhere.

Hours after the story was first published, David Ben-Zaken of BZ Sports Management, Lacy's agent, told Pete Nakos of On3Sports that the decision for Lacy to redshirt was "agreed upon between both parties." He also said that Lacy "anticipates returning to Louisville for another season" and "both parties are working tirelessly to make this happen."

The agent stressed that Lacy's decision was one based on not being 100 percent because of injury, but was not an NIL decision. What the parties, then, need to work out, was not elaborated upon. Nor did the agent specify whether Lacy aggravated his healing shoulder during the four games he played this season.

The NCAA allows football players to play in up to four games, or 25 percent of the regular season, before making a decision on whether to redshirt.

The 5-10, 190-pound Lacy has played in four games with 15 catches for 179 yards. He fractured his collarbone and got off to a late start, but made an impact in Louisville's loss to Miami, returning a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown.

Lacy was one of the top-rated receivers in the transfer portal after making 91 catches forĀ 1,316 yards at South Alabama.

Because he played in only four games, Lacy can redshirt and preserve his final season of college eligibility.

The loss for Louisville is significant, after the Cardinals lost receiverĀ Jamari Johnson for the rest of the season with an ankle injury.

Louisville faces Boston College at 7:30 Friday night in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
