LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Six teams in the Associated Press men's basketball top 10 lost last week.
Two of them lost twice. One was Wisconsin. The other was Kentucky. How far the Badgers and the Wildcats tumble will be the topic du jour Monday when the fresh Top 25 is released by 1 p.m.
Here is my ballot:
- UConn (20-2): The Huskies rolled right through Rick Pitino, Madison Square Garden and the St. John's hype.
- Purdue (21-2): By winning at Wisconsin, the Boilermakers took firm control of the Big Ten.
- North Carolina (18-4): Fluke loss to Georgia Tech. Convincing win over Duke.
- Marquette (17-5): The Golden Eagles have won six straight. The next three will show who they are: St. John's, at Butler and at UConn.
- Tennessee (16-5): I think the Vols just made another layup in Rupp Arena.
- Houston (19-3): All three of the Cougars' losses have come on the road.
- Auburn (18-4): Extra credit for winning at Ole Miss.
- Kansas (18-4): Everybody is gaga about Kansas after the Houston win. Didn't this team lose to UCF and West Virginia?
- Duke (16-5): The Blue Devils are a cut below UNC.
- Wisconsin (16-6): The Badgers have won three of the six and might be losing their juju.
- FAU (18-4): At UAB next. Won't be fun.
- Arizona (17-5): The Wildcats are starting to flex again.
- Creighton (16-6): Should not be losing at home to Butler — even by a point.
- Illinois (17-5): The Illini have pulled even with Wisconsin in the Big Ten.
- Alabama (16-6): For all the talk about Tennessee and Auburn, the Crimson Tide lead the SEC.
- South Carolina (19-3): Lamont Paris — coach of the year?
- Dayton (18-3): Another team with a challenging week on the road: at St. Joseph's and at VCU.
- Saint Mary's (18-6): Beat Gonzaga at Gonzaga. Well done.
- Kentucky (16-6): I suspect most voters will drop the Wildcats more than this, but getting D.J. Wagner back will make a difference.
- Iowa State (16-5): Four of their eight conference games have been decided by four points or less.
- BYU (16-5): I wonder if Mark Pope will be in the job market.
- Baylor (16-5): Survived Iowa State.
- Virginia (17-5): The Cavaliers have quietly moved into second place in the ACC.
- Utah State (19-3): The Aggies share the top spot in the Mountain West with Boise State.
- Indiana State (20-3): Remember this name: Josh Schertz. He'll be headed out of Terre Haute for a higher octane coaching challenge after the Sycamores' run ends.
