LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Police in southern Indiana arrested a former college dean, nicknamed "The Professor," who they'd been targeting for years on suspicion as a local drug dealer.
In a news release Thursday, the Clarksville Police Department said officers arrested Alan White, 59, after conducting a search warrant March 7 at his home on Scenic Drive. When officers arrived, they saw White driving away from the home. Officers caught up with him and made a traffic stop just after 9:30 p.m. White was arrested without incident, according to his probable cause affidavit.
Inside his home, officers found two plastic bags with a "crystal like substance" they identified as methamphetamine. One bag was in his bedroom inside a box of cigarettes, police said. The other was found in a separate room, hidden in the ceiling tiles along with some counterfeit bills.
In total, police recovered about 78 grams of suspected methamphetamine as well as drug paraphernalia and the counterfeit cash. White was charged with dealing methamphetamine, counterfeiting and possession of paraphernalia, police said.
"This is yet another example of the dedication of our officers," Clarksville Police Chief Nathan Walls said in a news release. "Working long investigations can be tedious at times, and I think this really showcases our patience.
Given White's last name and its relation to the famous meth cook in "Breaking Bad," Walls added this comment in the news release Thursday:
"He's definitely no Walter White," Walls said.
White, a former professor at Indiana University Southeast, was also arrested 10 years ago in Louisville when police found drugs in his car.
"Suffice to say that he obviously remained in his criminal activities," Clarksville Police Department's Justice Kraft said Thursday.
White answered the door at home Thursday. He wouldn't agree to an on-camera interview but said police have the wrong guy. Kraft disagreed.
"They have been looking at Mr. White for a long time," he said. "... I'm very confident in our narcotics detectives. They do a very good job and this is not their first rodeo."
