LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — It's been nine years since the Eastern (Pekin) girls basketball team defeated Oak Hill to claim its first IHSAA 2A State Championship.

History repeated itself Saturday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse as Eastern, coached by Taylor Drury who was a senior on the 2017 team, claimed the IHSAA 2A State Championship with a 50-32 win over Oak Hill.

The Lady Musketeers got out to a 26-15 lead at halftime but the Golden Eagles cut it to 34-27 heading into the fourth quarter.

Eastern held Oak Hill to just five points in the fourth and without a point for over most of the quarter to win the championship.

The 2017 championship game score was 42-31, nearly identical to what Saturday's score came out to be.

This season was just the second time Eastern won regionals, semi-state or appeared in the state finals. It's the second state championship in any sport for the school.

The Lady Musketeers started the season 0-2 but went 20-5 the rest of the way to make it to Indianapolis.

Eastern is the second Southern Conference team to win a state championship Saturday after Borden handled Fremont, 51-31, to repeat.
