LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The race is on at the Kentucky Derby Museum to highlight this year's Derby winner.

The museum gave a sneak peek Thursday of the work to update the Winner's Circle exhibit.

Once it's complete, it will feature a life-sized horse replica of Sovereignty.

Local artist Mike Prather is leading the project, and said it takes about 12 hours to complete. He started painting the Derby winner replicas at the museum in 1999.

"It's just an honor to do it. I know that people, 100 to 200 people, each day are going to be standing right in front of it, have their picture made, and it's a really important part of the museum, and it's just an honor for me to do it," Prather said.

The exhibit will also have self-guided panels and artifacts tied to Sovereignty, including a halter and racing silks. It's expected to be complete in early June.
