LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Three men were arrested in connection to a murder for hire plot in New Albany, Indiana.
Officers with the New Albany Police Department responded May 13 to a report of shots fired on Bank Street near Underground Station, a shopping and dining courtyard located at 37 Bank St., which is near West Main and Pearl streets.
According to police, shots were fired from a car parked on Bank Street. Witnesses told police a small black SUV left the scene after the gunshots. Police said the vehicle's driver's side rear window was shot out.
Police said a woman sitting on a waiting bench inside a nearby barbershop was injured during the incident. She was taken to Baptist Health Floyd with injuries to her foot that aren't considered life-threatening, according to police.
Three people were arrested in connection to the shooting.
According to court documents, Joseph Flesia, of Clarksville, hired Aaron Brown, of New Albany, to kill two people who worked at a building on Bank Street.
According to investigators, Flesia promised Brown $2,500 in advance and provided two firearms — an AR-style rifle and 9 mm handgun. Once the shooting was finished, the would-be-hit-man was to received another $2,500 when the obituaries of his targets were published.
Court records don't indicate a motive for the plot or what connection Flesia has to the couple he wanted murdered.
Flesia lived on Lynda Street in Clarksville, where neighbors told a WDRB News crew that they suspected something was happening at the house. They were also not surprised when police showed up in SWAT gear a few days ago.
Cody Vest, of Jeffersonville, is accused of helping the others dispose of the SUV used in the shooting.
Flesia appeared in court Tuesday and was charged with conspiracy to commit murder.
Brown and Vest have yet to appear in court.
