LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A judge has set a $500,000 cash bond for a woman charged with fatally shooting a man in the Park Duvalle neighborhood early Tuesday morning.
Angela Kelly, 45, was arrested Wednesday and charged with one count of murder. It happened just after midnight May 27 in the 3500 block of Bells Lane, according to a news release from Louisville Metro Police. Officers who responded to that location found the victim -- 51-year-old Lapriest Maddox -- outside a home with a gunshot wound to the head. EMS and Louisville Fire responded, but Maddox was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kelly told investigators she and Maddox were "in a dating relationship" and had lived together in the past. She said they were verbally arguing about Maddox's cellphone when it turned physical. Police said Kelly admitted that "that she took a firearm from the victim, pointed it at him and then shot him in the head."
She then left the scene in her vehicle.Â
A judge entered a not guilty plea on Kelly's behalf during her arraignment Thursday morning, and set a $500,000 cash bond. A public defender was also appointed to represent her.Â
Kelly's next court appearance is scheduled for June 6.Â
