LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville firefighters responded to a series of fires Thursday night that damaged multiple detached garages and burned trash throughout an alley in the city's south end. Investigators said a suspect is now in custody, and the case is being investigated as suspected arson.
According to Donovan Sims, a spokesperson for the Louisville Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched around 8:04 p.m. to reports of multiple fires in the alley near the 200 block of Ottawa Avenue. Firefighters arrived about five minutes later to find several detached garages engulfed in flames, along with multiple trash fires burning nearby.
Crews launched an aggressive attack on the fires while also searching the surrounding alley for additional spot fires. Residents in the area helped firefighters identify several smaller fires, allowing crews to extinguish them before they could spread.
The fire was brought under control by 9:01 p.m., and firefighters remained on scene checking for hidden hot spots and ensuring the fire had not spread further.
The response included four engine companies, two truck companies, one battalion chief, four staff officers and 32 firefighters. An additional engine company was called in because of the number of fires burning simultaneously.
Because of multiple reports of suspicious activity, Louisville Fire Department Arson Investigators responded to the scene. Christina Hargrove was arrested and charged with arson and wanton endangerment.
No civilians or firefighters were injured.
