LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The Keeneland Spring Meet was supposed to start this week, but has been postponed due to severe weather.
In a release Wednesday, the track said it is rescheduling the first two days of the Spring Meet "to ensure the safest environment for horses, participants and fans."
The race card that was supposed to take place on Friday, April 4 will now be Monday, April 7. The race card, including the Toyota Blue Grass, for Saturday, April 5 will now be Tuesday, April 8.
The Spring Meet begins 15 days of Thoroughbred racing. The first Saturday of the Spring Meet, which is traditionally the biggest racing day of the year at Keeneland, will hold an 11-race card with the top race, Toyota Blue Grass, worth $1.25 million.
The winner of Toyota Blue Grass lands a spot in the Kentucky Derby.
Racing during the Spring Meet will be Wednesday through Sunday with post time for the first race at 1 p.m., except on April 25 when the first race starts at 12:30 p.m.
