LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- After an impressive 33-20 win over Notre Dame on national television, the University of Louisville football team made double digit jumps in both the Associated Press Top 25 and the US LBM coaches poll.
Louisville jumped 11 spots in the AP poll to No. 14, the largest upward move in its history. The Cardinals have fallen by double digits but their largest previous climb in a one-week span was seven spots, when they climbed from No. 10 to No. 3 on Sept. 25, 2016. They also jumped from No. 22 at the end of the regular season to No. 13, after winning the Sugar Bowl following the 2012 season.
The ranking is also the program's highest since being ranked 14th on Sept. 17, 2017.
The Cardinals rose 10 spots, to No. 15, in the weekly coaches' poll.
Louisville improved to 6-0 with Saturday's win over Notre Dame, their second win over a top-10 team in as many seasons.
The Cardinals are the third-highest ranked team in the ACC. Florida State is at No. 4 and North Carolina at No. 12. Duke, which visits UofL in late October, is No. 17.
"Once you win a game like that, the bar goes from here up to here," Louisville coach Jeff Brohm said. "We want to enjoy it and relax and be around family and friends. Eventually, we will have to get back to work and understand that people can say what they want after winning the game. But every week in college football, if you don't come ready to play you are not going to win. We are going to have to get back to work."
Kentucky, which fell to No. 1 Georgia 51-13 on Saturday, remained in the poll at No. 24. Missouri, its opponent Saturday, dropped out of the poll but is the No. 26 vote-getter after a loss to LSU.
The Cardinals will return to ACC play when they visit Pittsburgh on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in a game televised by WBKI in Louisville. WDRB will host a 30-minute pregame show on the channel beginning at 6 p.m.
