LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- In a new chapter in the Scottie Scheffler arrest story, Louisville Metro Police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel said the arresting officer violated department policy by not activating his body camera during an altercation in which he arrested the golfer on his way into the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club.
Scheffler arraignment on charges of second-degree assault on a police officer (a felony), reckless driving, criminal mischief and disregarding a signal from officers directing traffic. His arraignment, originally scheduled for May 21, has been rescheduled for June 3.
On their Overtime sports talk webcast on WDRB+, Rick Bozich and Eric Crawford take a look at video of the incident released Thursday afternoon and discuss the impact to the community.
It's just one of a number of topics in their return to the webcast this week.
Also discussed on the program:
PGA REWIND: The PGA Championship has come and gone. What was your favorite moment? Critics say the course is too easy. Is it? How did this PGA rank with the three previous at Valhalla?
D. WAYNE LUKAS WINS PREAKNESS: At age 88, Lukas has won the Preakness Stakes and already has the winner, Seize the Grey, up at Saratoga for a run at the Belmont. Is there anyone else in horse racing to compare to Lukas, who has now 15 Triple Crown victories?
BIG CHANGES? COLLEGES PAYING PLAYERS: One by one, Power 5 conferences have voted to approve a settlement in the House v. NCAA case that will do two things: It will provide money for former athletes who have sued saying they were denied the ability to make money, and secondly and more importantly for most fans, it will allow schools themselves to pay players in the neighborhood of $20 million per school, but doesn’t eliminate collectives or Name, Image and Likeness compensation at all. There is a big more regulation in this method. Title IX requirements, for instance, must be observed. Is this the start of some kind of meaningful regulation? Or just money on the pile?
NBA’S FINAL FOUR: The NBA Conference finals are under way -- the Celtics held off a bid by the Pacers to steal home-court advantage on Tuesday night, but Minnesota couldn’t do the same against Dallas on Wednesday. We can’t speak for everybody, but it seems there’s more interest in these NBA playoffs than we’ve have in past years. Why?
KELSEY COMPLETES FIRST CLASS: It took Pat Kelsey 55 days to build his first University of Louisville basketball team, with 12 transfers and one freshman. What do we think of his approach and his success in restocking the roster which was completely empty after the dismissal of Kenny Payne?
WHAT WE MISSED: Louisville baseball struggling. So is Caitlyn Clark. Lamar Jackson drops some weight.
