LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The University of Louisville football team has been picked to finish fifth in the Atlantic Coast Conference this season, according to the league’s annual preseason poll released Wednesday.

The ranking comes from a vote of 183 media members credentialed for last week’s ACC Football Kickoff event in Charlotte.

Clemson was projected to win the league, earning 167 first-place votes and 3,083 total points. Miami, SMU and Georgia Tech followed, with Louisville close behind at No. 5 with 2,370 points.

The Cardinals are coming off a 9-4 campaign in 2024, which included a Sun Bowl victory and wins over Clemson and rival Kentucky. They return nine starters from that squad in head coach Jeff Brohm’s third season.

Louisville opens the 2025 season on Saturday, Aug. 30, against Eastern Kentucky at L&N Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. on the ACC Network.
