LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Drivers take their vehicles for regular tune ups, pay up, then sign the dotted line.
In this edition of "Gina on the Job," she goes under the hood to try her hand as an auto mechanic.
"We're going to do everything from an alignment to a complete inspection of all the fluids, brakes, suspension and everything to keep you a safe motorist," said Joe Trout, owner of Dr. Zoom Auto Repair.
First, Gina drove the vehicle onto the lift. "Now, straiten up. Pop the hood," Trout said.
Next, comes a check of the oil and coolant tank, air filter and brake fluid. "In the long run, fluid maintenance is paramount. So, let's put her on up in the air and see what the bottom looks like," Trout said.
It's time to remove all four wheels, using an impact wrench to remove the lug nuts. "Pull the trigger," Trout said. "Keep going until it's off."
Gina then inspected the brakes, rotor and put the lug nuts back on. After that, it's time to put the car back on all four wheels.
To do a tire alignment, Gina secured and centered a sensor to each tire. A scanner tied to a master system that recognizes the customer's vehicle checks over the mechanic's work.
"A lot of people don't realize, when it comes to your car, it's electronics, it's computers, it's hydraulics, it's heating and air conditioning. It's everything all underneath the hood of your car," Trout said.
