LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Purdue Pumpkin Chunking Competition happens on Tuesday, October 6th from 4-7pm. Purdue College of Technology, 3000 Technology Avenue, New Albany hosts the event.
The object: launch a 5 to 16 pound pumpkin using a gravity powered trebuchet (treb-yoo-shay), a medieval style catapult.
Competitors in the adult division try to hit the Great Pumpkin target from up to 125 yards away. The youth division must reach the target 75 yards away.
12 youth teams and 12 adult teams will compete. Each team gets 3 attempts using supplied pumpkins.
All machines must use gravity (falling weights) as their only source of power.
Awards will be presented at 7:00 pm. Plus, free pumpkin painting for the kids! Stop by and support the teams.
