LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Helping local veterans is something USA Cares have strived to do for nearly 20 years.
The annual Groundhog Day Breakfast is just one of the things it does to help raise funds for veterans, and it is coming up soon!
The breakfast is Feb. 2 at the Galt House Hotel. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m.
President and CEO of USA Cares Trace Chesser visited WDRB Mornings on Tuesday to talk about the upcoming event and why you should reserve a seat.
The breakfast was first thought of four years ago, and it just so happened that the only day that was available to have the event on was Groundhog Day.
The event quickly grew to be one of the biggest fundraising events of USA Cares.
USA Cares is a national non-profit that has been around Louisville for several years. It focuses on helping veterans going through tough times, whether that be struggling to pay their bills, struggling with an addition, or having a disability.
"Most of our veterans have kids, so that is something that touches me," Chesser said on WDRB Mornings on Tuesday. "So not only are we saving them, we are saving their families."
There are several volunteer opportunities with USA Cares throughout the year, and they are open to hearing about more volunteer ideas according to Chesser.
To reserve a seat or a table for the breakfast, email here or call Whitney Hobbs at 502-653-0105.
