With so many events leading up to the Kentucky Derby this week and next, weather will be a deciding factor of whether or not folks can or even want to attend activities outdoors. Despite having quite a long period of dry time around Kentuckiana, the weather pattern is about to become much more active. In this weather blog, we're going to focus on the Balloon Glow at Waterfront Park in Louisville and figure out if you should attend tonight or tomorrow based on the weather conditions.
For this evening, it's fairly cut and dry: temperatures will be warm, skies will be mainly clear, and winds will calm down the deeper we go into the evening. It is a nearly perfect evening to be outdoors besides possibly breaking a sweat at the beginning of the event with temperatures hovering around 80 degrees.
Friday is a totally different story. showers and storms will move into our region Friday afternoon, but the cold front will lag fairly far behind them. In fact, the front won't clear the region until early Saturday morning. This means the a few rounds of storms and showers will be possible Friday afternoon, evening, and night.Â
Some of these storms could bring some fairly gusty winds, and a couple of them could potentially produce some hail. The better chance for strong storms is north of I-64.
With that said, we highly advise you to check out the Balloon Glow tonight if you want a slam dunk of a forecast for good weather. If you can't make it tonight, there is a chance that storms clear the area before the Balloon Glow officially starts on Friday. There's still even a chance that storms miss Louisville entirely! Stay up to date with the latest forecast by watching WDRB on TV throughout the day and checking the radar on your WDRB Weather app if you plan to head to Waterfront Park on Friday evening.
