LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Music, dance and food filled downtown Louisville Saturday as the second annual Africa Day festival drew crowds to Fourth Street Live for a celebration of culture and community.
The event featured live performances, traditional drumming and dancing, poetry and vendors offering food and cultural items as attendees moved through the space throughout the evening.
Festivalgoers danced to traditional music, browsed local vendors and took in colorful displays of traditional African attire and textiles, while performances highlighted cultures from across the continent. A fashion show also showcased cultural designs and traditional garments.
Co-organizer DJ Oko Mensah said the turnout and energy reflected the months of work that went into planning the event.
"Seeing everything come together was nothing short of magical," Mensah said. "To witness the pure joy, the deep pride in our culture, and the vibrant energy filling the space made every single moment of planning worth it."
Mensah said one of the most meaningful parts of the festival was watching people connect across backgrounds.
"The community response completely blew me away," Mensah said. "The turnout was incredible, but what really touched me was the connection — seeing people from all walks of life dancing together, supporting local vendors, and just genuinely enjoying the space we built for them."
Organizers said the festival served as a cultural gathering point through art, music and food, bringing together performers, vendors and attendees for a shared celebration of heritage.
