LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The weekend is upon us, and there are plenty of things to do and see across Kentuckiana.

Here are a selection of events, markets, concerts and more happening the weekend of Friday, Jan. 30 to Sunday, Feb. 1.


Louisville Boat, RV & Sportshow

You can start thinking about outdoor activities this weekend at the Louisville Boat, RV & Sportshow.

The region’s outdoor, camping and boating community can once again try and learn about the outdoor and on-water lifestyle.

The show returns to the Kentucky Exposition Center Jan. 28 through Feb. 1. The mid-winter event has been around for more than 60 years.

You can browse, board, order, and purchase from among the newest-model RVs, boats and on-water and sporting accessories.

The show features many educational or interactive attractions:

  • Stingray Touch Tank
  • Sara Twister
  • Safety Zone
  • Kids’ Trout Pond
  • Paddle Sports Pool
  • Boat Education
  • Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Exhibit

Dates and times:

  • Friday, Jan. 30 from 12-9 p.m.
  • Saturday, Jan. 31 from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m.
  • Sunday, Feb. 1 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.                      

Admission is $14 at the box office. Children 12 and under are free.

Kosair Shrine Circus

The All-New Shrine Glow Circus Spectacular takes over Broadbent Arena this weekend.

This year's spectacle features acts of extreme talent and jaw-dropping performances. Ringmaster Rulito leads the audience from one exciting act to the next.

BMX Riders and Moto Riders’ brave wild jumps and stunts, fearless acrobats dangle from a single trapeze, skilled riders enter the Globe of Death, and hearts pound 30 feet in the air on a one inch-wide high-wire.

For more than 60 years, the Carden family has entertained hundreds of thousands of people.

The three-ring circus showcases talent from across the globe including Africa, Mongolia, Brazil, Mexico, Russia, and of course, the U.S.A.

Each year, thousands of underprivileged children attend the Kosair Shrine Circus for free through ticket donations to more than 100 charities.

Doors open one hour before showtime for the Preshow Festivities, including performer meet-and-greets, animal rides, fun activities and more.

  • Saturday, Jan. 31 at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Louisville Zoo January Birthday Bash

Get ready to party with the animals.

The Louisville Zoo is launching a new monthly tradition this weekend that puts the spotlight on some of its most beloved stars.

The Zoo’s first Birthday Bash will be held Saturday, Jan. 31, kicking off a monthly series of animal birthday celebrations throughout the year. The event was rescheduled from Jan. 24 because of the winter storm.

Guests will get to watch as the Zoo’s “birthday stars” enjoy custom, species-specific enrichment treats. Special keeper talks will also give visitors a closer look at the animals and how they are cared for.

From gorillas and penguins to polar bears and zebras, the Birthday Bash is designed to be both fun and educational, offering families a unique way to experience the zoo.

Dolly Parton's Threads: My Songs in Symphony

The Louisville Orchestra will present the songs of Dolly Parton this weekend with "Dolly Parton's Threads: My Songs in Symphony."

The orchestra will play Parton's beloved hits, including "Jolene," "Coat of Many Colors" and "I will Always Love You." The "multimedia symphonic experience" will feature Dolly on screen and lead the audience on a visual journey through her songs, her life and her stories.

Bob Bernhardt will conduct the orchestra, with guest vocalists and musicians for the "symphonic storytelling experience."

Parton said the concert serves as a way to share her music and musical journey with fans and audiences "in a new way."

Dolly Parton's Threads is set for Saturday, Jan. 31 at 7:30 p.m. at Whitney Hall in the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts.

Lenny Lyles Invitational

Track and field athletes from across the country will gather in Louisville this weekend for three days of indoor competition at a premier local venue.

Starting Friday, Jan. 30, and continuing through Sunday, Feb. 1, the events are expected to draw more than 1,500 participants each day, including collegiate, high school and youth athletes.

The weekend begins with the sixth annual PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational, hosted by the University of Louisville. The two-day collegiate meet, supported by PNC Bank, features elite programs from Texas, Alabama, Ohio and Tennessee.

Among the competitors are Ja’Qualon Scott, an NCAA and SEC All-American specializing in the 60-meter hurdles, and Louisville’s ACC champion thrower Jayden Ulrich.

The schedule concludes Sunday with the Southeast Showdown, organized by Knoxville Youth Athletics. Originally postponed because of winter weather, the youth and high school meet highlights some of the region’s fastest rising athletes.
