"A Taste for Life"
The Louisville restaurant community will come together this weekend to battle mental illness with the annual "A Taste for Life" event.
Eight years ago, Anthony Bourdain, famed chef, author, and TV personality, took his own life.
You find tragic stories like this throughout the restaurant industry, where stress levels are high, hours are long, the pace is frenetic, and the pay is generally low. Service workers are sometimes susceptible to drug and alcohol addiction and mental illness.
In honor of Bourdain and to raise awareness for mental illness and addiction in restaurants, many world-renowned chefs have declared June 25 "Anthony Bourdain Day."
The local Louisville restaurant industry has the same challenges and wants to make a difference.
Chris Williams from Four Pegs — alongside co-creators chefs Kahlil Kennedy, Eric Morris, and Lee Mayfield — is keep the fight going by hosting the 7th annual fundraiser dubbed "A Taste for Life" on Sunday, June 28 at 3rd Turn Oldham Gardens.
The event features chefs from many local restaurants preparing food and feeding people for a cause.
The proceeds help the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Louisville, and the Pete Foundation.
General admission tickets are $70, and children's tickets are $25.
