LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The weekend is upon us, and there are plenty of things to do and see across Kentuckiana.
Here are a selection of events, markets, concerts and more happening the weekend of Friday, Nov 7 to Sunday, Nov. 9.
Kentucky Veterans Parade
You can honor those who have served our country by attending the Kentucky Veterans Parade this weekend.
This year, the Kentucky Veterans Parade moves from downtown to NuLu and starts at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8. It will travel along East Market Street from Campbell to Hancock.
After the parade, families are invited to check out the "Touch a Tank" display to see military vehicles up close.
In celebration of the parade's 15th anniversary, community members have nominated veterans for special recognition as part of the "Heroes Among Us" initiative. All the nominated veterans will be invited to participate in the event.
This year's grand marshal is retired Col. Timothy “Tim” McDonald, CIG, DML. The honor recognizes his distinguished 30-year career in the U.S. Army and his continued service as Kentucky’s State Director of Army Instruction for JROTC.
His leadership now shapes the next generation of military service members across all branches.
Louisville Water Tower Fall Open House
Celebrate the science, history and community of Louisville Water this weekend at the Louisville Water Tower Fall Open House this Sunday, Nov. 9.
This year, the open house moves from the Crescent Hill Reservoir to the Louisville Water Tower, located at 3005 River Road.
The fun and free afternoon will be filled with activities. Explore interactive displays and activities for all ages from learning how they test water quality to seeing how water moves through the distribution system.
Attendees will be able to get up close to Louisville Water’s trucks and meet the crews who keep the water flowing. Step inside the museum and discover the fascinating history of Louisville Water that began 165 years ago, and learn about the nation’s oldest ornamental water tower.
Capture your visit at the selfie station and take home some Louisville Water swag while supplies last.
You can also enjoy complimentary treats as you explore. Parking and admission are both free.
The open house runs from 12-5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9.
Norton West Louisville Hospital Community Day
Norton Healthcare's newest hospital in Louisville's west end will host a community day this weekend at the city's sports and learning complex in celebration of its first anniversary.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, Nov. 8, community members can take part in free health screenings, connect with community resources, explore career opportunities and get other health care assistance.
According to a news release from Norton, health screenings and information will focus on strokes, women's care, orthopedics, diabetes, cancer and mental health. Nearly 50 booths will be on hand and there will be giveaways.
There will also be family-friendly games and activities — such as face-painting and balloon art — and concessions, as well as a group workout session at 1:30 p.m.
Organizers said Community Day also includes a screening of a locally-produced documentary "showcasing how the hospital is making history and transforming lives in our community."
Community Day takes place at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center in Louisville's Russell neighborhood, 3029 W. Muhammad Ali Blvd.

Louisville Roller Derby 20th Anniversary Bout
Louisville Roller Derby will close out its fall home season this Saturday with a celebration of its 20th anniversary.
The double-header is scheduled for Nov. 8 from 4:30-9 p.m. at Triple Crown Pavilion on Plantside Drive in Louisville.
Doors open at 4 p.m. and the fun gets going at 4:30 p.m. with the Louisville Junior Roller Derby in a showcase against Indianapolis Junior Roller Derby, according to organizers.
Louisville Roller Derby will take the track at 7 p.m. for an "intraleague battle" of the Assphalt Annies vs. Bad Pennies, named after two of the league's founding members.
Formerly known as the Derby City Roller Girls, Louisville Roller Derby was established in 2005 as an LLC "owned and operated by individuals who love to skate." In 2009, the group became an official member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association.
As a nonprofit, LRD volunteers and makes charitable contributions — which they say are part of their foundation.
“We’re thrilled to be closing our season at home here in Louisville,” Vice President of Louisville Roller Derby Hanna Woods, known as Jennifer Cruelidge to the league, said in a news release. “We spend the majority of our season traveling across the region to compete, so it means a lot to us to be finishing this season strong in front of our hometown fans who have been supporting us for the last 20 seasons.”
Attendees will be encouraged to participate in activities, such as voting for fan favorites. Proceeds from the competition will benefit Voices of Kentuckiana.
Parking is free and there will be concessions and a bar. Tickets start at $20 for adults and $12 for children age seven to 12. Children under seven get in for free.
