LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The city of Louisville is giving away free radon test kits.

Radon is the second-largest cause of lung cancer in the United States. According to estimates from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Surgeon General's office, radon is linked to more than 20,000 lung cancer fatalities annually.

Radon is an odorless, colorless, naturally occurring gas from small amounts of radioactive uranium. It can be found in rocks, soil and groundwater. That gas can infiltrate buildings and expose people to radiation which can cause health issues.

The best way to find out if you and your family are at risk is to get your home tested. That's why Louisville Metro Health & Wellness offers free kits. Click here to fill out a form to request a radon testing kit
