LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A southern Indiana man was arrested on drug charges recently after he was found dancing in the street while holding a rare turtle.
According to reporting from FOX59, conservation officers with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources announced Tuesday they found the Harrison County man "dancing" in the street. The man was reportedly holding an Eastern Box Turtle, which the DNR said is illegal.
Officers said the man was also found carrying both methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on drug charges and booked into jail.
The turtle was unharmed, FOX59 reported. Conservation officers released it near the area where it was found and it returned to its natural habitat.
According to the DNR, Eastern Box Turtles are "long-lived, slow to mature and have few offspring per year, and may not be collected from the wild."
The turtles are not considered to be a federally endangered species, but they are considered rare in the Midwest. Click here for more information from the DNR.
