LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky Department of Public Health issued a drug overdose alert for Fayette County on Tuesday.

According to a release, there have been 29 nonfatal suspected drug overdoses from Jan. 4 to Jan. 7 in Lexington. The health department said people who use drugs in or around that area should take caution to protect themselves.

Overdose Detection Mapping Application System monitors suspected drug overdose encounters in EMS data to identify clusters of drug overdoses in Kentucky. 

People are encouraged to keep naloxone, also known as NARCAN, on hand to administer it if someone is suspected of an overdose. Fentanyl has been found in various types of unrelated drugs.
