LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentuckians can now purchase a specialty license plate that promotes mental health.

The Pete Foundation, a Louisville nonprofit that promotes mental health and wellness, announced the license plate on Monday. It's the state's first license plate that features a mental health flag. It is available to order at county clerk offices.

According to a news release, a portion of sales from each plate supports the Pete Foundation. The nonprofit hopes the license plate sparks conversations about mental health awareness. The goal is to exceed 500 orders in the first six to eight months.

People can request the Mental Health Specialty plate while renewing an auto plate at the county clerk's office. People can also personalize the plate online. The cost of the plate is $44, with $10 of that fee earmarked for the Pete Foundation.

The Pete Foundation also hosts the Big Stomp music festival annually in Louisville.

The Big Stomp was previously known as "PeteFest" and established in 2017. The festival honors Louisville native Pete Jones, who took his own life in Dec. 2016.
