LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Kentucky Science Center in downtown Louisville plans to use $150,000 in funding from city leaders to upgrade the the facility's four-story digital theater.

According to a news release Friday from Kentucky Science Center, the money was approved as part of the recently passed Louisville Metro budget.

The funding was backed by District 4 Councilman Ken Herndon, part of the city's commitment to revitalize downtown.

"We're deeply grateful to Councilman Herndon, Mayor Craig Greenberg, and to Louisville Metro Council for recognizing the impact of our theater and investing in its future," said Mike Norman, president and CEO of Kentucky Science Center. "This funding helps us breathe new life into one of our most powerful tools for storytelling and science education."

Renovations to the center's theater are scheduled to begin later this year. The 150-year-old facility has become a landmark on Museum Row, providing year-round science-themed activities and entertainment for adults and children.
