LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A teen girl was killed after a car crashed into three people Saturday afternoon in Shively.

According to Shively Police Sgt. Jordan Brown, officers responded at 4:30 p.m. to a crash in the 3900 block of Dixie Highway. It happened near a Speedway between Park Road and Leroy Avenue.

Police said a vehicle crashed into multiple people. A teen girl died at the scene. Police said a woman in her 30s and another teen girl were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

In an update Sunday morning, police said the woman they believed to be in her 30s was actually another teen girl.

A large crowd of family and loved ones made it to the scene shortly after the crash. Those who know the victims said the teen girl who was killed lives close by.

"For a park to be on the other side of it, I just feel like there should be more lights, more signs for people to slow down," said Amina Shale, who knew the victim.

Shale said the victims of the crash are all part of Louisville's Somali Bantu community. She's the founder of More than a Smile nonprofit.

Shale said the young girl who was killed in the crash as well as the other victims participated in many of the nonprofit's programs.

The crash remains under investigation. Police have not said whether any arrests have been made in connection with the crash.

"To hear the family, the mother scream, I know the scream and the cry all to well," witness Nicole Cowheard said. "I know what it's like to lose a kid. She kept saying, 'that's my baby, that's my baby.' She ran underneath the tape but the child never moved."
