LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A winner was crowned Monday night at Schnitzelburg's 55th annual Dainty Contest.Â
Louisville Councilwoman Jennifer Chappell, D-15, announced Jeff Bent as the winner in her newsletter. He won after whacking the Dainty a whopping 138 feet.Â
Brent Wearren was also recognized for hitting the Dainty the shortest distance — 2.5 inches. For that, Wearren received a basket of lemons for last place.Â
The results were posted on the official Dainty Fest Facebook page.Â
The Dainty Contest concludes a multi-day festival in Schnitzelburg that kicks off on the last Friday in July. The contest is held on the last Monday of July on George Hauck Way, near Goss Avenue. Contestants, who must be at least 45 or older, use a broomstick to try to hit a 5-inch peg (the Dainty) as far as possible.Â
The contest got its start in 1971 when Hauck, Charlie Vettiner and others gathered at the corner of Goss and Hoertz avenues to play the German street game.
