LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Thousand of people are expected at this weekend's St. Joe's Picnic for Kids .

The 176th picnic will be held from 5-10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, and noon to midnight Saturday, Aug. 9. Anyone under the age of 18 not within arm's length of a supervising adult after 8 p.m. will be asked to leave.

The popular annual summer tradition in Louisville's Crescent Hill neighborhood announced earlier that it would no longer serve its famous chicken dinner. Instead, the picnic will replace the chicken dinner with more food trucks and snack options.

Admission and parking are free. Parking is available onsite via the Brownsboro Road entrance. Overflow parking with free shuttle service is also available on Saturday at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Parking Lot off at 2825 Lexington Road, which is off Grinstead Drive. The shuttle runs on Saturday from 8 a.m. until 1 a.m. on Sunday. No shuttle will be available on Friday.

The event features prizes, raffles and live music.

Band Schedule for Friday, August 8:

  • Soul Circus: 8-10:30 p.m.

Band Schedule for Saturday, August 9:

  • Johnny Berry: 1-2 p.m.
  • Checkmates: 2:30-5 p.m.
  • Famous on Friday: 5:30-7:30 p.m.
  • RearView Mirror: 8-11 p.m.

The annual picnic benefits St. Joseph Children's Home. A group of Ursuline nuns started St. Joe’s Picnic for the Kids in 1850 to raise funds for the care of orphaned children living at St. Joe’s. The picnic has remained one of the largest annual fundraisers providing vital support to cover the daily operating expenses of the home.
