LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The St. Joe's Picnic for Kids, the popular annual summer tradition in Louisville's Crescent Hill neighborhood, will no longer serve its famous chicken dinner.
In a news release Wednesday, the St. Joseph Children's Home said it wasn't an easy decision.
"Chicken dinner has been a longstanding part of the Picnic tradition, but we have listened to our community and realize their needs have changed," Amanda Gehring, CEO of the home, said in a news release. "Reinvention is the foundation for success."
The 176th picnic will replace the chicken dinner with more food trucks and snack options.
"Introducing new ideas to enhance the Picnic allows us to offer more support and services for our St. Joe's kids," Gehring said.
The picnic will be held from 5-10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, and noon to midnight Saturday, Aug. 9. Anyone under the age of 18 not within arm's length of a supervising adult after 8 p.m. will be asked to leave.
