LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville residents are invited to kick off Memorial Day with the Mayor's Hike, Bike & Paddle event at Waterfront Park.
Mayor Craig Greenberg announced the free community event will begin Monday, May 25 at 8 a.m. at the Great Lawn. Participants can choose between hiking, biking and paddling routes through the city and along the Ohio River.
The hike is a four mile walk that follows the river east toward RiverPark Place. The route then crosses the Big Four Bridge into Indiana and returns.
Participants can also choose a guided bike tour through downtown Louisville. The first 300 participants will receive a free bike helmet.
Those that choose to paddle will launch from either the Harbor Lawn or the UofL Boat Docks and travel downstream to Shawnee Park, passing through the McAlpine Locks. A limited number of kayaks and equipment will be available to rent on a first-come, first-served basis.
All hikers, bikers and paddlers will begin their activities at 10 a.m. Free fitness classes will be offered throughout the morning.
The first 2,000 people to arrive will also receive a free event t-shirt.
