At Ivy Tech Community College in Sellersburg, the School of Information Technology is opening doors to high-paying, in-demand careers—whether students are just starting out or making a career change.
Take, for example, one student who enrolled straight out of high school. Just two years later, they landed a role in software-driven testing for a national health insurance firm. Another student, in his early 70s with a background in marine motorsports, secured a network infrastructure position at a local company. Their success stories showcase the transformative potential of Ivy Tech Sellersburg’s IT programs.
With eight specialized programs and 41 certificate and degree pathways, the School of IT offers training in cybersecurity, network infrastructure, IT support, cloud technologies, software development, computer science, informatics and data analytics. Ivy Tech’s mission is simple: meet students where they are and help them get where they want to go.

Fast-Track Your Future in IT
“The IT field provides upward mobility and flexibility,” says Kenyatte Simuel, Department Chair for Cybersecurity and Network Infrastructure at Ivy Tech Sellersburg. “Even if you start with a certificate, that alone can get you into the industry. And once you're in, new opportunities open up.”
Many certificate programs can be completed in just 12 to 16 months, (Note: we have a couple of certificates that can be done in 6 months, but most may require three to four 8-week sessions to complete), allowing students to quickly enter the workforce. Those who pursue an associate degree often secure IT jobs within weeks of graduation. With Indiana’s IT job market projected to grow by 12% over the next decade, demand for skilled professionals is higher than ever.
Cutting-Edge Learning and Tuition-Free Opportunities
IT education at Ivy Tech Sellersburg isn’t just about textbooks—it’s about real-world skills. Programs like network infrastructure, established in the 1990s, continue to evolve with new technologies, including AI, cybersecurity threats, and autonomous systems.
“We push the boundaries and bring in emerging technology,” Simuel says. “For example, AI is rapidly evolving, so we incorporate its applications and challenges into our curriculum. Ignoring it would be a disservice to our students.”
Ivy Tech also provides opportunities for high school students and adult learners through dual-credit courses and upskilling programs. Additionally, some IT programs—including cybersecurity, IT support, and network infrastructure—qualify for Indiana’s Next Level Jobs Workforce Ready Grant, covering tuition costs for eligible students.
“That gives students immediate marketability,” Simuel explains. “They can earn a certificate, secure a job, and continue working toward an associate degree—all while gaining hands-on experience in the industry.”
High-Paying Careers in IT

A Life-Changing Path to Success
For Simuel, the best part of the job is witnessing students achieve their goals.
“Graduation is one of the most rewarding days of the year,” he says. “We see the joy on students’ and families’ faces. For some, this is the first degree in their family—and that’s a huge milestone. They had a path, a plan, and they accomplished it.”
