LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Tickets are available for an annual event that lets guests get a taste of the Kentucky Derby.
Dare to Care's Taste of the Derby Festival is scheduled for April 15 at Louisville Slugger Field.
Because last year's event saw record demand, officials said, it will have more space this year.
The festival includes more than 75 of the area's food and beverage artisans. Attendees will be able to taste dishes, take photos and enter raffles for prizes. Prizes include wine and spirits, box seats for the Kentucky Oaks, and new patio furniture from Watson's.
This year marks the 36th year for the event, which supports Dare to Care food bank.
"We're excited to celebrate culinary excellence in our community while raising crucial funds in our fight against hunger," Vincent James, Dare to Care president and CEO, said in a news release Thursday. "There's no better way to celebrate the kick-off of Derby season."
Dare to Care serves 13 local counties, working to combat food insecurity. In Jefferson County alone, the nonprofit said nearly 102,000 people experience food insecurity, with about 40% of those residents above the threshold of eligibility for SNAP benefits.
This year, Dare to Care said Feed Louisville has stepped up and committed to repurpose all leftover food from the Derby event for distribution to several local shelters and pantries for neighbors facing food insecurity.
