LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man is dead and another is critically injured after a fiery crash near Churchill Downs on Sunday night.
LMPD spokesman Aaron Ellis said officers responded to the 3800 block of Southern Parkway on a single motor vehicle crash just before midnight on Sunday.
Witness statements revealed that a pickup truck was traveling on Southern Parkway when they lost control, collided with a tree head-on, and caught fire.
Louisville Fire and EMS were called to the scene. LFD was able to gain control of the fire quickly and extinguish it, according to Ellis.
Emergency crews located two men inside the truck once the fire was put out.
The passenger was pronounced dead on scene. The driver was suffering from "serious injuries" and was transported to UofL Hospital.
His condition is unknown at this time.
LMPD's Traffic Unit is conducting the investigation.
